Restoration is careful work on an older or damaged guitar: crack and headstock repairs, neck resets, refrets, replacing worn or missing parts, and finish work, from touch-ups that blend into the old finish to full refinishes. Every shop in this list offers restoration or refinishing on its own website or in its business name.
On a vintage guitar, originality affects value, and a refinish can lower it. A good restorer will tell you when a cleat or a touch-up is the better call than a refinish, and will keep original parts if you ask. Ask to see photos of similar jobs, and get the plan and a written estimate before work starts.
