Profile
Cedar Hollow Guitars is the workshop of master luthier Steven Richards, who has dedicated over 20 years to the craft of building exceptional acoustic instruments. Located up a cedar hollow in the foothills of the Olympic Mountains near Sequim, this boutique guitar operation specializes in handcrafted steel string acoustics, including single O, double OO, Orchestra Model, and Dreadnought sizes.
Richards builds each instrument using forward-positioned, scalloped pre-war Martin style X bracing, combining traditional techniques with the skill and intuition developed over two decades of lutherie. His custom guitars are known for their responsive playability and alluring tonal qualities, appealing to musicians who value artisan craftsmanship and creative expression.
The workshop reflects Richards’ deep commitment to acoustic guitar building, where each instrument receives meticulous attention throughout the construction process. Beyond his lutherie work, Richards and his wife Lorraine actively support musical education and regularly attend music festivals and luthier shows throughout the region. Musicians interested in commissioning a custom instrument or discussing guitar building are welcome to visit the Peninsula workshop by appointment.
